Level Design Ho!

Level design is in full swing in my brain, I eat sleep and even dream level design. it has been fun to see how I can come up with cool interesting level designs and quests. my brain is constantly thinking of stuff to do in the game. I look at a building and imagine myself and how I could scale it if I had awesome parkouring abilities. then I have to take that into a game perspective and try and make that thought all objective based.
Level Design Blueprint
So first off I gave my preliminary sketch some depth by blocking it in on sketchup.

Level mocked up in sketch up.
With the level having depth I then can take pieces of it and try and come up with some basic ideas as to how to utilize parkouring to get around and achieve objectives.
some objectives in how to get around.
Last I sketch up ideas and various actions for puzzles and movement.

I'll continue working on some more level design and sketch out more of the inner workings of buildings and objectives.

Lets Do THIS!!

So the new semester has started and I am getting a bit nervous, so this is what has happened. we had a change in project lead, some new people joined and others dropped.. But I am on to animating I got a new smoke bomb throw animation and a fireball launching animation.
Fire ball animation
The game is coming along but we are having big discussions as to what we can do in our game which leads me to my new assignment: LEVEL DESIGN!
Avatar Ninja Preliminary level design mock up.
So I am pretty nervous about this, I am not too good at coming up with stuff, but I cam up with this very rough draft of a level and I am pretty happy with it. After playing with a bunch of games that were quest based like Assassins Creed, Toy Story - Toy Box Mode, Lego LoTR, WoW, and pretty much any game actually.... well this is my level design that i feel would allow us to maximize space and make interesting quests. I still am fighting for a boss battle in the sky *Crosses Fingers*

Alpha

So for this final sprint I worked on more animations and got the previous ones to look good.
so our project lead mentioned that he would like a roll animation so I made a forward roll animation for the avatars.

I really wanted to make this roll as fluid as it could be and not make it look like it slowed the character down at all.

I reanimated the previous wall run as per some direction by the animators at react games.

After Thanksgiving Sprint

So the past week has been somewhat productive lots of turkey and food, anywho time to get down to the work. so this past weekend I have been working on some concept art for our game, maybe a splash screen for the title and what not. I ended up taking my personal xbox live avatar and drawing him on top of a japanese rooftop.

This is supposed to give an idea of what are game is striving for.

the game should be at night and allow the player to reach high heights with the aid of parkour.
Today I worked with thaddeus and we got a cloud texture working so that a puff of clouds appears when the player double jumps to signify the player is able to double jump because of that cloud forming. this is the cloud texture. I wanted to go for a wind waker sort of feel so it has very curvy and a very asian look to it.

This is also my custom water texture, once again I was looking for very asian/cartoony look. this is it in action courtesy of thaddeus.custom water texture in action.

Shimmy Animation

So I have been working on a right shimmy animation for when the avatar is hanging on a edge. it looks good but lets see what people think of it. basically after watching some assassins creed and screen capping it I think I have a pretty good foundation for a good animation.

well it time for bed and now it is only 24 days until I get married! :D

Animation domination

On to animation, with the game moving forward we are in need of animations so for the first round of them I have animated a run and a wall run.

Wall run. not too sure if we need a left wall run and a right wall run.

New Game

Well Momentum didn't make it to the next phase. but now I am on to a new game for the final product.
we are working on a ninja game with assassins creed parkour that utilizes your very own avatar to play the game. we wanted to use the avatars because the avatar is really a part of you, we spend countless amounts of money and time acquiring new gear for our avatars only to show off in a chat session via xbox live. (lame) so with our game you will actually be able to play with your avatar and be a ninja and do crazy acrobatics and stunts to acquire greater abilities in order to achieve greater feats within the game!

once again I am on the art side of the production team. I have done some concept art for the game with various settings and buildings.

 bamboo trail

 stylized bridge

 River temple

 Mountains

 Commons District

 Props

 Riverside shrine

 Temple shrine

Rural Village

Our game is really coming together and I am excited to see where we can take this.
